Maybe not first on your holiday hit-list but worthy of note!

Rural Italy is rated amongst the most desired of holiday destinations in the world and while idyllic in this sense, for the locals, the moutainous areas are slowly emptying and their businesses struggling, as the local population is agening these local stores are a lifeline for the people that live here in the valley, but that doesn’t mean that the people that shop there aren’t discerning, as such you’ll find better produce in these places than you will in the bigger stores in the biger towns, so make the effort and give these places your support, it will add value to your holiday also, we promise!

Rosticceria ‘Punto Eat’ in Pietrabuona

Next door to the Pharmacy on the main road from Pescia is the family run shop run by two English speaking but Italian sisters, it is a general alimentari, but not only! The fact it’s calld a Rosticceria means they cook food here to take away, so as well as a good selection of basic supplies you can expect to find freshly cooked lasagna, rosemary roasted potatoes, seafood salad and the like, each day a different choice, and at a great price, to buy and reheat. Closed Sunday afternoon and Monday

Alimentari ‘minimarket’ in Vellano

For a small space they stock almost everything you might need, think supermarket but with fewer brand choices, the food they sell they pride themselves on quality, like ham and cheeses and have a great range of wines on offer.

Frateschi in Pietrabuona

Next door to the restaurant ‘Da Nerone’ on the main rad from Pescia is the builders merchant ‘Frateschi’, while most of what they stock is for building and D.I.Y. their range crosses into general household and therefore that of holdaymakers as you can find lightbulbs, cleaning products, firelighters and BBQ charcoal and insect sprays and the like, it’s always worth stopping in here first before heading further afield for something you might need, Paolo and his wife speak English and have patience in abundance. Open 07:30 - 12:30 & 14:30 - 18:30 Monday to Friday
