The hardworking hubs of rural village life.

The humble Circolo

They hide themselves away, often invisible to visitors

It would be remiss of us not to include mention of the many circolos in the valley, they are the beating hearts of the villages. Unassuming places with prices to match, they shouldn’t be overlooked by visitors as you can pop in for a coffee, a drink, and even often something simple to eat. For a slice of real Italian life why not pop into your local circolo, order a drink and watch the animated comings and goings of the locals.

The Circolo at Pietrabuona

The gateway to the valley, Pietrabuona is easy to pass by, the more modern part of the village unremarkable and the beautful old castle hidden out of sight above as you drive through. The circolo, midway through the village with a small sign saying ‘AGORA’ outside, is the only circolo you can decide to drop into any day of the week as it is open from 14:00 until the early hours every single day of the week! There is an indoor bar area and a large covered outside area for the warmer months, where they often arrange activities from live bands to karaoke evenings. OPEN 14:00 until late, 7 days a week

The Circolo at Vellano

The circolo in Vellano is one of the most active with regards to festas and sagras throughout the year and has a lot of village involvement. There is a large indoor seating area as well as a large outdoor seating area for the summer. They offer drinks and snacks, and at the weekend serve delicious pizza cooked in the wood-fired oven. OPEN ????????

The Circolo at San Quirico

San Quirico also has a very active Circolo, but which operates a little more like a restaurant of an evening - you can book a table for dinner and expect pizza cooked in their oven, as well as tasty antipasti and puddings. OPEN evenings from 20:00, weekends from 14:00

The Circolo at Medicina

Near to the first car park in the village.
